On May 14th, Georgian lawmakers passed the so-called “Foreign Agent Law.” Protests broke out immediately.
People began marching through the streets. This continued virtually every day for months, despite increasingly brutal crackdowns, culminating in massive demonstrations against Georgia’s controversial election results in October. At time of writing, in February, 2025, they’re still marching.
I flew to Tbilisi a week after the law passed, when the protests were still relatively small. This one began with a few dozen protesters and ended with a few hundred. By October, tens of thousands were taking to the streets
